Mindy
A. Cohen possesses over twenty-five years
of experience organizing both large and small
scale events at venues throughout New Jersey
and the country. From conceptualization through
design and execution, Ms. Cohen’s work
benefits Fortune 500 firms as well as prestigious
non-profit organizations. Her work on behalf
of clients has been featured in news papers
and journals, including the New York Times and
the Washington Post. Ms. Cohen’s recent
projects include the coordination of the Carnegie
Centennial celebration, annual galas for the
American Red Cross, the Courage in Journalism
Awards for the International Women’s Media
Foundation, the prestigious Spotlight Gala for
the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (the most
successful fundraising event held in the state),
the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the NJN
Annual Benefit Celebration, the State Theatre
of New Jersey and many others throughout the
metropolitan area.
Ms. Cohen grew up in the Philadelphia area and is a
graduate of Haverford High School. She received her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from George
Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1975. Ms.
Cohen’s career began on Capitol Hill where she
served in various positions, including Legislative Assistant
to Congressman Herman Badillo of New York and Congressman
William Hungate of Missouri and, at the age of 27, became
Chief of Staff to Congressman Harold Volkmer of Missouri.
In 1980, Ms. Cohen established and owned a national
fundraising consulting firm. Her clients included U.S.
Senators, Congressmen and political organizations. In
1982, Ms. Cohen spearheaded the Washington and New Jersey
fundraising efforts for Senator Lautenberg’s first
campaign. She continued to serve as Senator Lautenberg’s
exclusive fundraising counsel for over ten years.
In 2002, Ms. Cohen was elected to the Board
of Trustees of WBGO, Newark Public Radio, Inc.
(Jazz 88). In September 2009, Ms. Cohen was
elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees and
Chair of the Executive Committee. Ms. Cohen
is the first woman in the station's thirty year
history to serve in this position.
